I spill a lot of ink each month discussing smarter ways to save, invest and compound your money.
Today I’d like to address a different but no less important topic: how to donate money in a way that promotes – rather than undermines – your highest values.
You may believe you do this already. For example, you probably give money to your alma mater each year.
That’s understandable.
You have fond memories of your time there. You still root for the football, basketball and other sports teams. You recognize the supreme importance of education and want to “give back” to help pave the way for future generations.
There’s only one problem. But it’s a big one.
Your university – with a few exceptions – is almost certainly not what it once was.
Across the nation, millions of alumni are learning the disturbing truth…
On today’s campuses, facts have been replaced with feelings.
Moral complexity has been replaced with moral certainty.
Debate has been replaced by deplatforming.
Diversity of thought has been replaced by homogeneity of thought.
Persuasion has been replaced by public shaming.
Education has been replaced by indoctrination.
And this ideology has migrated into business and popular culture as well.
A recent New York Times/Siena College poll found that 84% of Americans say being afraid to exercise freedom of speech is a serious problem.
And yet – out of a sense of tradition or loyalty – many still donate to educational institutions that are openly hostile to the principles that made them successful in their business and personal lives.
There is a solution, however.
You can give – as I do – to a nonprofit that excels in promoting free expression, open inquiry and capitalism.
I’m talking about Students For Liberty.
Students For Liberty is a global movement of young individuals committed to promoting the ideas of liberty, free markets and limited government.
It firmly believes that a society that respects individual rights and fosters economic and personal freedom leads to prosperity, innovation and the overall well-being of its citizens.
Its chapters are aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of these principles among students on campus and within the broader community.
Through seminars, workshops, guest lectures and community outreach programs, the folks at Students For Liberty empower young minds to think critically, engage in constructive discussions, and develop a strong foundation of knowledge about the principles that shape our world.
To continue its impactful work, the organization relies on the support of generous individuals who share its vision for a freer and more prosperous future.
Your contribution can make a significant difference in amplifying its efforts and reaching a broader audience.
Here are just a few ways your support will have a lasting impact:
- Educational initiatives: Your donation will help Students For Liberty organize informative seminars and workshops that equip students with the tools to articulate and defend the principles of liberty in their academic and personal lives.
- Speaker series: With your support, it can invite renowned speakers and experts to campus, providing students with unique perspectives and insights on topics related to economics, individual rights and freedom. Last year, Students For Liberty organized over 2,000 events with 157,419 attendees.
- Community outreach: The organization aims to extend its influence beyond the campus through community events and partnerships. Your contribution enables it to engage with a wider audience and promote the values of liberty.
- Advocacy and activism: Funds will be instrumental in supporting student-led initiatives that raise awareness and advocate for policies that advance personal and economic freedom.
- Alumni network: Students For Liberty supports an alumni network of more than 10,000 free market advocates who now work in government, journalism, academia and think tanks.
A donation to Students For Liberty reflects your dedication to empowering the next generation of leaders and thinkers, the people who will shape the future.
You become an integral part of a movement that is creating lasting change and fostering a society rooted in liberty and individual rights.
I’m proud to give my own time and money to Students For Liberty. And I invite you to visit their website to do the same.
Your donation, no matter the size, will be put to effective use in promoting the ideas that have made freedom-loving countries the most peaceful and prosperous in the world.
I’m also excited to announce that Kenny Wagner – director of development for Students For Liberty – is a featured speaker at our upcoming Private Wealth Seminar at Lake Tahoe.
He will discuss how we can create a brighter future built on the twin bedrocks of liberty and personal responsibility.
It’s a shame that your alma mater is not promoting the ideals that help societies flourish.
Fortunately, Students For Liberty is.
